Brown Butter Double Chocolate Nutella Skillet Blondie

This was the thing I was craving constantly for a whole week of eating relatively healthily + lots of gym, and when I finally gave in to the craving it was so very worth it.

This giant blondie has all the things going on – brown butter, brown sugar, Nutella, chocolate x 2 and I fully recommend making it even more epic by serving with lots of ice cream, caramel sauce and a sprinkle of sea salt.


It’s super quick and easy to make and involves minimal washing up (1 bowl, 1 skillet), and couldn’t be more delicious- what’s not to like? (Let’s ignore the calories please.)

Photos all taken on my phone, as my laptop sadly died last week and I have no way to upload my camera photos. Hopefully they at least kind of do the giant blondie justice 

Ingredients –

  • 115g (1 stick) butter
  • 200g (1 cup) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp  vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 150g (1 cup) plain/ all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 100g (1/2 cup) chocolate chips
  • 100g (1/2 cup) white chocolate chips
  • Nutella – approx. 5 tablespoons

Method –

  • preheat the oven to 180C/350F
  • brown the butter – cook in the skillet on a medium heat, swirling occasionally until dark golden brown
  • in a large bowl mix together the butter, sugar and vanilla until smooth
  • beat in the egg, whisking until the mixture is super smooth and glossy
  • stir in the flour, salt and baking powder until just combined
  • mix in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the mixture
  • Spread about 2/3 the mixture on to your skillet, add 5 or so tablespoon sized dollops of Nutella, then cover with the remaining blondie dough, swirl the Nutella around a little and smooth over the top
  • bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown on the outside, but still soft and gooey in the centre

best served warm with plenty of ice cream and caramel sauce

  1. I’ve been seriously craving skillet desserts lately: cookies, brownies, cake-anything. This looks so delicious-I could have a whole pan to myself. I would have never been able to tell all the pictures were taken with you iPhone!
